My Framework: The Wayfinder’s Journey
How the Journey Unfolds
The Problem: Recognizing You're Stuck
You know something isn't working. Maybe you can't name it. Maybe you've been repeating patterns that leave you unfulfilled, or you sense there's more to life but the path forward feels unclear or intimidating. This stage is about honesty: acknowledging the gap between where you are and where you want to be, understanding what actually motivates you (not what should motivate you), and naming the resistance that keeps you from starting.
The Intervention: Building What You Lack
You can't see what's around the bend until you start walking. Often, we lack the specific skills or resilience for the terrain ahead. This phase involves facing manageable challenges that reveal how your new life differs from your old one. You'll likely need new mentors, allies, and tools. You'll also grieve who you were while gradually accepting who you're becoming—identity shifts are often the hardest part of change.
The Work: Confronting Yourself
Eventually, every journey leads to a confrontation with the self. The beliefs, fears, and rejected parts of yourself that you've avoided surface as you approach your goals. This is the ordeal: facing your own "dark material" with courage. A therapist accompanies you, but only you can do this part. The outcome may not be perfect, but it will be real.
The Integration: Making It Stick
Change that lasts requires consolidation. You'll synthesize your new sense of self into daily life, make meaning of what you've been through, and face ongoing tests that verify you've truly learned the lessons. For many, this stage also brings a desire to share wisdom with others—evidence that the journey has transformed you.
Is This Approach Right for You?
The Wayfinder's Journey suits people who:
Feel stuck in patterns they can't quite explain
Are navigating significant life transitions
Want to understand their challenges within a larger narrative of growth
Are willing to examine uncomfortable truths about themselves
Not required. Always available. Whether we use this framework explicitly or simply let it inform our work in the background, the goal remains the same: helping you navigate your life with clarity, courage, and meaning.
An integrative framework for understanding your life
A wayfinder is someone who navigates uncharted territory—not by following a fixed map, but by reading the landscape as it unfolds. We are all wayfinders in our own lives, constantly orienting toward meaning, purpose, and becoming.
The Wayfinder's Journey is my signature approach to therapy: a narrative framework that helps you understand your challenges as part of a larger story of growth. Drawing from The Hero's Journey, existential philosophy, and depth psychology, it offers a way to make sense of where you've been, where you're stuck, and where you're headed.
This framework is available to you, not required of you. Some clients use it as a guiding structure for our work together; others prefer traditional talk therapy without the narrative arc. We'll decide together what fits your goals and temperament.
